About Palace in Małkocin

A Neoclassical palace from the early 19th century with a ballroom and a park of 5 ha in Małkocin near Stargard.

The palace in Małkocin, a village 7 km north of Stargard, is a Neoclassical brick building from the early 19th century, listed in the heritage register. The register describes it as a manor house, and the entry on the village as a two-storey palace with a ballroom. A park belongs to it, and the present owner of the palace and park is the University of Szczecin.

The building and the park

The two-storey palace has a Neoclassical form, is extended by a ballroom and has Neo-Baroque elevations with a false projection. The park covers 5 ha and has interesting landscape architecture and old tree specimens. Next to it stands a complex of former farm buildings of stone and brick. From 1867 to 1945 the village belonged to the von Leoper family, earlier, in 1490-1790, to the Weyher family.

The village and the area

Małkocin lies on the Małka river and has the layout of a linear street village. In the Church of St Joseph the Betrothed two stained-glass windows from 1888 and 1903 and a bell from 1594 have survived. By the road to Warchlino stands a brick dovecote in the shape of a tower from the 19th century. It is about 7 km from here to the centre of Stargard with its town hall.
