Reinforced concrete brutalist shelter of 1973 with a mushroom-slab roof on 21 pillars, entered in the heritage register in 2019.
The platform shelter at the Szczecin Pogodno stop is a reinforced concrete structure in the brutalist style from 1973, entered in the heritage register in 2019. Its hallmark is a mushroom-slab roof on 21 pillars, popularly called the chalices.
The shelter was designed by the architect Danuta Rusiecka in cooperation with the structural engineer Henryk Kowalczyk. The structure was cast on site in three modules of seven chalices each, from concrete with basalt aggregate. A similar solution was used in the main station in Katowice of 1972. Similar prefabricated shelters were planned for other Szczecin stops, but only this prototype was built.
Passenger traffic on line no. 406 was suspended in 2002, and the condition of the shelter began to deteriorate. When its demolition was planned, in 2018 the architect Tomasz Sachanowicz, students, the neighbourhood council and activists applied for its protection. The shelter was entered in the heritage register, and the project to rebuild the platform was changed so as to keep it. In May 2024 the roof was cut off from the pillars in order to raise the platform and was set aside with cranes. After renovation it is to return on new, taller pillars.
