About Basteja Museum in Stargard

A rebuilt 16th-century bastion with a multimedia exhibition on the history of Stargard.

The bastion by the Weavers' Tower in Stargard is the only one of three structures of this type in the town to have survived intact, and it is unique in Pomerania. It was built in the 16th century to defend the ramparts with firearms: the walls have numerous loopholes, and at the top stood a platform for cannon.

In the 19th century the bastion lost its military significance, was raised by a storey and converted into flats. In 1945 it was destroyed, and it was rebuilt in 1979-1980. Since June 2013 a multimedia permanent exhibition of the Archaeological and Historical Museum in Stargard on the history of the town up to the 1920s has been housed in the Bastion. Lectures, children's birthdays and escape-room games for adults are also held here.

The bastion, the Collegiate Church of St Mary and the defensive walls are a Historic Monument (pomnik historii). Right next door stands the Weavers' Tower, and the Pyrzyce Gate is 100 m away.
