Private museum in the cellars of the Kołobrzeg town hall, with items from the sieges of the fortress, militaria and guild mementoes.
The Kołobrzeg Museum “Patria Colbergiensis” is housed in the western part of the cellars of the Kołobrzeg town hall and shows the thousand-year history of the town and the region. It opened on 27 September 2014 during the European Heritage Days.
The institution belongs neither to the town nor to the state. It is a non-governmental organisation, operating on the basis of regulations agreed with the minister of culture and entered in the register of museums established by private individuals. The collections are dominated by items from the time of the Thirty Years' War, the Seven Years' War and the Napoleonic campaign.
The museum's website lists the rooms: “Under the Clock”, “Kołobrzeg, a Spa Resort of the 1st Category”, “Kołobrzeg Pioneers”, “Kołobrzeg Fortress” and “The Siege of Kołobrzeg in 1806/07”. According to the Wikipedia entry, the collections include medal art and phaleristics, militaria, including edged weapons and black-powder firearms, municipal numismatics, cartography, engravings, painting, glass, porcelain, ceramics, sculpture and sigillography. A collection of its own concerns the old guilds: coppersmiths, shoemakers, masons, bakers, weavers and saddlers. The whole exhibition concerns the Kołobrzeg area.
The museum lies on Town Hall Square, a few steps from the Co-Cathedral Basilica. Half a kilometre further on is the Kołobrzeg Fortress, which complements the exhibitions on the sieges of the town well.
