About Museum of Memorabilia of the 1st Polish Army in Stare Łysogórki

A municipal museum about the crossing of the Oder in 1945, with soldiers' memorabilia and a recreated exhumation headquarters.

The Museum of Memorabilia of the 1st Polish Army in Stare Łysogórki, in Gryfino County, documents the crossing of the Oder in April 1945. It is an organisational unit of the municipality of Mieszkowice and has been open since 1965, and its building stands next to a war cemetery.

The building

During the crossing of the Oder in 1945 this building housed an exhumation headquarters. The museum was modernised in 2014-2016. The exhumation headquarters of 1945 has been recreated in the cellar. In front of the building stands a monument tank, an IS-2 belonging to the 4th Pomeranian Heavy Tank Regiment.

Exhibition

The collections include memorabilia connected with the crossing of the Oder: original uniforms and equipment of soldiers of the 1st Polish Army, as well as the equipment of a German and a Soviet soldier. The display cases show documents, decorations, photographs and urns with soil from the battlefields of the Second World War. There are also small arms from the war period and rockets, the Katyusha and the Andryusha. On the first floor are an ethnographic exhibition and a temporary exhibition, “Od pociągów do rowerów” (From Trains to Bicycles), about the railway crossing at Siekierki.
