About Palace in Barzkowice

Eclectic palace from the 19th century, extended in 1911, with a manor park of 7.6 ha, in a former estate in Stargard municipality.

The palace in Barzkowice is an eclectic palace from the 19th century, extended in 1911, in Stargard municipality. It stands in the south-eastern corner of the former farm courtyard and is entered in the heritage register.

The building and the park

The building was constructed on a rectangular plan, on a stone plinth, with a deep projecting bay, a hipped roof and a rusticated façade; the architectural detailing has Neoclassical and Neo-Renaissance motifs. In 1911 an upper floor and a veranda were added and the interiors were rebuilt, adding a staircase and a drawing room. In the vicinity farm buildings have survived, and a manor park of 7.6 ha, with the Pęzinka River running through the middle, ponds and old trees (white fir, oaks, American tulip tree).

History of the estate

The first mention of Barzkowice dates from 1336, and the estate belonged in turn to the Borcke and von Forcade families, among others. After 1945 a state farm (PGR) was set up here, and then an experimental station, an agricultural progress centre and an agricultural advisory centre. From this tradition grew the West Pomeranian Agricultural Advisory Centre, and every year in September the Agro-Pomerania agricultural fair is held in Barzkowice. The Encyclopedia of West Pomerania says that the palace is in private hands.
