Palace in Laskowo

18A, Laskowo
About Palace in Laskowo

An eclectic palace from about 1842 with two towers and a landscape park, in the former estates of the Cistercians of Kołbacz.

The palace in Laskowo, in Pyrzyce County, is an eclectic residence from 1842 combining neo-Baroque, neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance. The Wikipedia entry regards it as an original example of rural residential architecture, standing apart from the trend of similar complexes in West Pomerania. Under the name “manor house” it also appears in lists of monuments.

History

From the 13th century the village belonged to the Cistercians of Kołbacz. After the dissolution of the monastic orders by the Prussian authorities, it became part of the estate of the von Wedel family of Krępcewo, and then often changed owners. The building was constructed around 1842, which is commemorated by a date in the projecting bay of the garden elevation. Two other dates are traces of rebuilding in 1855 and 1896. The last pre-war owners were the von Prollins. After the war families of State Agricultural Farm workers lived in the palace, and in 2001 private owners carried out a renovation.

The structure and the park

The single-storey building with a usable attic has a gable roof with dormers, a projecting bay with a porch and a terrace, and a portico with four balls. At the corners stand two towers: a four-storey one with the main staircase and a two-storey one with the kitchen stairs. In front is a driveway with old oaks, and the courtyard is closed by a stone gate with balls. The whole is surrounded by a landscape park with a glade in front of the garden elevation.
