Museum run by an association on the site of a former synthetic petrol plant, with an exhibition on the history of Police, the plant and the labour camps, and collections of militaria.
The “Skarb” Historical Museum in Police is run by the “Skarb” Association of Friends of the Police Land on the site of the former Hydrierwerke Pölitz AG synthetic petrol plant. The museum is at Spółdzielcza 31 and tells the history of Police, of the plant and of the camps whose prisoners worked on the production of petrol.
The association operates on the site of the plant and has made it open to visitors since 2006. In 2010 an exhibition on the history of the town, the former plant and the labour camps was set up in the two shelters that house it.
Besides the exhibition, the museum has collections of militaria, utility technology, documents and photographs, mostly from the Second World War. The visit is combined with a tour of the plant grounds and takes place with a guide from among the association's members. The exhibition speaks of the fate of the prisoners in a historical way; the visit calls for quiet and seriousness, because the place is linked with forced labour.
Less than a kilometre from the museum lies the Synthetic Petrol Plant in Police, that is, the site on which the association operates.
