The ruin of a Neo-Renaissance palace in Witnica near Moryń, with a neglected park and a 19th-century farm complex.
The palace in Witnica, a village in Moryń municipality, is today the ruin of a Neo-Renaissance residence, around which a park and a large complex of farm buildings have survived. The heritage register dates the palace and park complex to the second half of the 19th century, while the Wikipedia entry on the village speaks of a palace from around 1840. The site is viewed from the outside.
The manor was built after 1780 by the von Sydow family. After a fire the new owners, the von Oelsen family, built an imposing palace in the Neo-Renaissance style. It was surrounded by an extensive park of about 20 ha, which after the Second World War was maintained by a state farm (PGR), and the park contained a game park and a pheasantry. In 1990 a fire consumed the palace and it has not been rebuilt since.
The park is today very neglected, but swamp cypress, yews, two species of arborvitae, mock oranges and lilacs grow in it. Opposite the palace stands a large complex of farm buildings from the second half of the 19th century. The complex was entered in the register in 1987 (no. 1079), and a further entry dates from 2024 (no. A-2079).
