Nature in Cedynia comes as four reserves with four different habitats: steppe, heathland, beech wood and a spring-fed alder grove.

If you enjoy watching the landscape change, it is a good pick: within one commune you pass from dry grassland to damp woodland. Other points in the town are under things to do in Cedynia, and similar terrain across the region under nature in West Pomerania.

Where can you see steppe vegetation near Cedynia?

Steppe grassland grows in the Bielinek and Wrzosowiska Cedyńskie reserves, both in the Cedynia Landscape Park. The first overlooks the Oder valley, the second lies a few kilometres from the town.

Bielinek became a reserve in 1957, though it came under temporary protection as early as 1927, then under the German name Bellinchen. It protects forest-steppe communities, and the downy oak has its only Polish site here. Wrzosowiska Cedyńskie is heathland and dry grassland. A path from the viewing platform climbs a 60 m hill with a shelter, giving a view of the surroundings.

Where is the woodland nature in the Cedynia commune?

The woodland reserves are Dolina Świergotki and Olszyna Źródliskowa pod Lubiechowem Dolnym, both small and damp. The first has steep slopes, the second lies by springs.

Dolina Świergotki was established in 1989. It protects Pomeranian beech wood, hornbeam woodland and a stream ravine. Olszyna Źródliskowa dates from 1973, covers a hectare and exists to protect giant horsetail. Ash-alder carr and acid beech wood with broad-leaved helleborine also grow here. The history of the area is added by The Battle of Cedynia in 972.
