Hills and trails in West Pomerania: the E9 coastal path, the loop round the Szczecin Lagoon, the Pomeranian Way of St James and the Coastal Trail.

Four free routes run along the coast, round the lagoon and across the region from Koszalin to Świnoujście. They are aimed at walkers and cyclists travelling alone who want views and long distances.

Which trail should you choose by the sea?

The Coastal Trail named after Dr Czesław Piskorski is a walking route marked in red along the Baltic shore. In this voivodeship it starts at Świnoujście, passes Kołobrzeg and ends at Jarosławiec, and it is a section of the E9. In Pomeranian Voivodeship the same route is called the Baltic Coastal Trail.

The E9 European walking route is about 4,500 km long, with more than seven hundred of them in Poland. In Poland it starts in Świnoujście on the German border and, at first, follows the Coastal Trail.

How do you cycle round the Szczecin Lagoon?

Around the Szczecin Lagoon is a circular Polish-German cycle route of 296 km, split into seven stages. The loop begins and ends in Szczecin, passes through Goleniów, Wolin and Świnoujście among others, and in the east shares its line with the Blue Velo route.

What is the Pomeranian Way of St James?

The Pomeranian Way of St James, also called Camino Polaco del Norte, belongs to the Via Baltica. It was restored in 2011-2013 under the Interreg South Baltic programme, and in the region it runs from Koszalin via Kołobrzeg and Szczecin to Świnoujście.

The places these routes lead to are under hills and trails and on the page things to do in West Pomerania. The early strongholds along the way are described in the article Slavic strongholds in West Pomerania.
