Architecture in Pyrzyce: Gothic churches, a granite-block chapel and town walls with towers, four monuments that fit into a single day.

Medieval brick and granite give Pyrzyce its character. The list holds two churches, a chapel and the fortifications. Everything else worth seeing here is on things to do in Pyrzyce, and buildings from the rest of the region are collected under architecture of West Pomerania.

Which architectural monuments are there in Pyrzyce?

It is best to start with the town walls. About 2 km of walls from the 13th century remain from the town defences, together with the Lodowa, Pijacka and Sowia towers and the Bańska and Szczecińska gates. The northern stretches were partly renewed after the war.

Of the churches, the oldest is Our Lady of Sorrows on Staromiejska 28, put up around 1260 for Augustinian nuns. At 1 Maja 7 stands the Gothic Assumption church, which burnt down in 1945 and was raised from ruins by 1966.

Zabytkowa 34 is the address of the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, Gothic, built of granite blocks and now home to the Pyrzyce Land Museum. The historical background of the town is told in the piece Bogusław X and the Treaty of Pyrzyce.
