Architecture in Wolin: a Gothic collegiate church, a manor on a castle site, a brick windmill and a swing bridge, four sights for one walk.

The town lies on the island that bears its name, and alongside the monuments stand works of engineering: a windmill and a bridge over a strait. The remaining sights are on what to see in Wolin, and monuments from other towns are described in architecture in the region.

Which monuments in Wolin are worth seeing?

The Collegiate Church of St Nicholas at Jana Pawła II 1 is a Gothic church from the late 13th century. It was destroyed in 1945, then secured as a permanent ruin, and rebuilding went on until the end of the 1990s. At Zamkowa 23a stands the Manor House in Wolin, from the turn of the 19th century, where the Pomeranian dukes' castle once stood, renovated in 2012. The von Below family built it, and today it stands in the courtyard of the town office.

What engineering survives in Wolin?

The Dutch windmill of 1850 is a round brick tower of three storeys, in the western part of town, behind a cemetery. In the east is the swing bridge, which links Wolin with Wolińska Kępa across the Dziwna strait. Poland has five such structures, and electric motors provide the movement.
