Things to do alone in Międzyzdroje: a walk along the pier, two museums for rainy days, a Neo-Gothic church on the hill and a former rescue station by the beach.

Międzyzdroje is a resort where a day without company comes easily: a walk, a museum, a short pause by the sea. The five places here are tagged as good for solo travellers, and two of them work well in bad weather. For a broader look at the town, see things to do in Międzyzdroje; more solo ideas from across West Pomerania are in solo travel in West Pomerania.

How to spend a day alone in Międzyzdroje

The simplest plan combines the sea with a visit under a roof. In the morning you can stroll along the pier and the promenade, around midday look into a museum once the beach grows less pleasant, and leave the church on the hill and the old rescue station for the afternoon.

By the sea

Molo w Międzyzdrojach (Międzyzdroje Pier) is a reinforced-concrete walkway 395 metres long stretching out into the bay from the middle of the beach. The two white towers at its start are a trace of an earlier wooden pier, the first of which appeared in 1884. The landing stage serves excursion boats, so you can simply sit and watch the sea.

Right by the beach, at Promenada Gwiazd 13, stands Dawna stacja ratownictwa brzegowego w Międzyzdrojach (the former coastal rescue station). It is a Neo-Gothic red-brick boathouse from the turn of the twentieth century with a slate roof. It now houses a restaurant, so you can take a break there after a walk.

Two museums for rainy days

Muzeum Figur Woskowych w Międzyzdrojach (the wax figure museum) is a private venue open all year. About a hundred and ten life-size figures stand here: actors, politicians, painters and fairy-tale characters. Muzeum Przyrodnicze Wolińskiego Parku Narodowego (the park's nature museum) is at Niepodległości 3c, on Filaretów Hill, in a garden. Five rooms of dioramas show birds, seals and bison, and a geology display includes amber. Both places let you go round at your own speed.

A church on the hillside

Kościół św. Piotra Apostoła w Międzyzdrojach (St Peter's) stands at Lipowa 8, on the northern slope of the Piastowskie Hills. The Neo-Gothic church went up in 1859-1862, designed jointly by the architect Friedrich August Stüler and the Prussian king Frederick William IV. It began as a Protestant church.

What to read about Międzyzdroje before you go

How the resort grew is told in the article from the fishing village of Misdroy to the pier and the Walk of Fame. The first bathing seasons are covered in the text on Świnoujście, Międzyzdroje and Dziwnów in the nineteenth century, and what the 1913 storm did to the pier is described in the article on the storm of 1913. For a longer trip, a two-day route across both islands will help.
