Atmospheric places in Pogodno, Szczecin: round Jakub Wujek Square, Pawłowski Square with a bandshell and the Krygier bench. Three stops for two.
Pogodno is a villa district where mood comes from squares and streets rather than single landmarks. All three places carry the "Dla par" (for couples) tag, so they suit an unhurried walk for two.
Begin at Jakub Wujek Square, round and lined with villas from the early 20th century. It was marked out back in the 1890s as the centre of the Neu Westend estate, built by a company under Johannes Quistorp. Now residents come to relax here, and it has two playgrounds.
Why the villas and the circular layout exist is explained by the text on Quistorp's villa district. Read it before setting out and the walk makes more sense.
The second square, named after Walerian Pawłowski, is the neighbourhood's living room. It has a bandshell built in 2014, next to a playground and an open-air gym. Over the year the place hosts fairs, a flea market and a cycle of philharmonic concerts with help from the Pogodno residents' council. A separate card describes Pawłowski Square.
On the Twardowskiego street side, by the gate to the Municipal Stadium, a footballer and coach who lent his name to the ground sits in bronze. The 2023 Florian Krygier bench shows him holding a ball, his hat at his side, on a granite seat.
You will recognise the wider area from the landmarks of Pogodno and the page on the whole district. For mood in other parts of the region, try atmospheric places.
