Free things to do in Stare Czarnowo: three lakes in the Bukowa Forest and two woodland reserves with trails, a nature path and viewpoints.
The Stare Czarnowo municipality lies next to the Bukowa Forest, where a walk among trees takes the place of an entrance ticket. All five places here carry the free tag in the catalogue. That does not apply to private services such as the holiday centres by the lakes, so check their rules separately. The other places of the municipality are listed under things to do in Stare Czarnowo, and more ideas from across the region are in free places in West Pomerania.
What to see in Stare Czarnowo without spending money
The woods and the water offer the most: three lakes in the Bukowa Forest and two nature reserves. All lie within the Szczecin Landscape Park "Puszcza Bukowa" and are linked by forest trails. They are places for a whole day of walking, with nothing to buy.
Lakes among the beeches
Glinna Wielka covers 75.6 hectares at the forest's southern fringe. Descriptions call it the largest lake on the southern rim of the Bukowa Forest. Its shoreline forms five bays, and by the water there is a hillfort and the Łużec glade where trails cross. Beside the village of Binowo, on its western side, spreads Jezioro Binowskie (Lake Binowskie), about 52 hectares in area. It offers a beach and holiday centres, and trails reach it from Binowo. Its western shores are dry and wooded, the north-eastern ones boggy and overgrown with reeds.
Piasecznik Duży, also called Kizik's Lake, is smaller at 14.8 hectares. It hides in the middle of the Bukowe Hills, a little north of Binowo. There are viewpoints here and a holiday centre close by.
Two reserves in the forest
Rezerwat przyrody Źródliskowa Buczyna (the Źródliskowa Buczyna reserve) protects 155 hectares of woodland on the southern slopes of the Bukowe Hills, partly beside Lake Glinna. It was created in 1956. A trail junction and a nature path with twelve stops run through it, so it makes a good first walk. Farther east, near Kołbacz, lies Rezerwat przyrody Osetno (the Osetno reserve). It protects woodland important for fungi and was among the earliest Polish reserves of that kind. A green trail passes through.
Planning a no-cost day in the Bukowa Forest
The simplest plan is one lake and one reserve. For example, a morning walk round Glinna Wielka and then the nature path in Źródliskowa Buczyna, since the two sit side by side. Choose Lake Binowskie when you want a beach, and Osetno when you prefer a green trail and woods without water.
