For couples in Świnoujście: a stroll through the Spa Park, a lighthouse, the breakwater with Stawa Młyny, salt towers and a bridge over the Świna.

Świnoujście sits on islands, so most places for two have water in the background: a strait, a canal, a lagoon or the sea. The selection covers walks, views and short stops that combine easily into one day. Other addresses in the city are under things to do in Świnoujście, and ideas from the whole region are gathered under attractions for couples.

Where can couples walk in Świnoujście?

The easiest start is the spa district: park, brine towers and seaside promenade. From there you can go west along the breakwater or return to the centre, by the strait, where the port and crossings are visible.

Park, brine towers and promenade

Park Zdrojowy w Świnoujściu (Spa Park) was laid out as the grounds of an emerging spa, and its layout is tied to the name Lenné. It has avenues, sculptures and old trees, which makes it a natural beginning for a walk. By the beach, where the Historical Promenade meets Małachowskiego street, stand the Tężnie solankowe w Świnoujściu (salt graduation towers): wooden structures over whose twigs brine trickles down from the spa. The air is pleasant and the benches invite a rest together. The history of the health resort is told in the text Świnoujście as a seaside resort.

Breakwater and lighthouse

The Western Breakwater ends right at the sea, and at its tip stands Stawa Młyny, a white navigation mark from 1873-1874 shaped like a windmill and a symbol of the city. The Latarnia morska Świnoujście (lighthouse) in the Warszów district, on Bunkrowa street, rises in Warszów on Bunkrowa street. The brick tower dates from 1857 and has 308 steps up to the top. According to Wikipedia it is the tallest on the Polish coast, so the view from the top is a fine goal for a shared outing, provided you both manage the climb.

Which viewpoints are worth choosing in Świnoujście?

Besides the lighthouse, two places on the lagoon and canal side offer views: a wooden tower at Karsibór and the surroundings of the Piast Canal. Both lie outside the strict centre, so plan a separate trip.

The Wieża widokowa w Leśnictwie Karsibór (Karsibór forest observation tower) is an unroofed larchwood platform eight metres high over the Szczecin Lagoon, beside the Karsiborskie paprocie (Karsibór ferns) trail. A walk through the forest and a view of the water bring a quiet that the seafront lacks. The Kanał Piastowski (Piast Canal) was cut in the late 1800s as a short water route from the strait to the lagoon; it is part of the shipping route to Szczecin and a spot to watch vessels pass for a moment. Next to it, the Most Piastowski w Świnoujściu (Piast Bridge) is 407 metres long and joins Karsibór with Ognica.

What is there to see at the port and the crossings?

Port Świnoujście occupies the middle of the city on both sides of the strait, where you find a ferry terminal, an LNG terminal and moorings for yachts. It suits an evening walk along the quay. Not far away, near Jachtowa street, stands the Ławeczka Stefana Szolca-Rogozińskiego w Świnoujściu (bench monument), with a figure of the traveller, placed there in 2023.

Another interesting stop is the Tunel pod Świną (Świna Tunnel), a road tunnel 1.78 kilometres long, opened on 30 June 2023 and linking the islands of Uznam and Wolin. How the crossing of the strait has changed is explained in the article The Świna tunnel and island crossings.

Frequently asked questions

What should couples see in Świnoujście in fine weather?

The Spa Park, the brine towers, the Western Breakwater with Stawa Młyny and the lighthouse. These places carry the scenic-views tag or lie on seaside walking routes.

Are there quiet places for two, away from crowds?

Calmer spots are the observation tower at Karsibór over the lagoon and the banks of the Piast Canal. They lie outside the centre and need a short ride.

How long should I allow for the lighthouse?

Climbing 308 steps and coming down takes a few dozen minutes, but leave extra time for the views and check the visiting rules with the operator.

Why does Świnoujście have two parts?

The city stands on the islands of Uznam and Wolin, split by the Świna strait. A tunnel links them, and ferries still run from the port.
