Palaces in Szczecin: four historic buildings, from the neo-Baroque Palace Under the Globe to a Renaissance hunting lodge in Dąbie.

Szczecin's palaces are scattered across several districts, so each needs its own stop. Two stand in the centre and belong to the Academy of Art today, while two lie further out: in Dąbie and in Arkońskie-Niemierzyn. You view all of them from outside, because they serve education or public institutions.

Which palaces in central Szczecin are worth seeing?

The two central buildings share a user: the Academy of Art. Both date from the late nineteenth century and are neo-Baroque.

The Palace Under the Globe stands at Orła Białego Square 2 and owes its name to the sculpted globe on top. The neo-Baroque building of the early 1890s replaced Grumbkow's Baroque residence. The Palace of the Pomeranian Landschaft at Aleja Niepodległości 40 went up in 1893-1895 and now houses the academy's Music Faculty.

What can you see among the palaces outside the centre?

Two smaller buildings lie in Dąbie and Niemierzyn and suit a longer outing through the housing estates.

The Hunting Lodge in Dąbie at Dziennikarska 39 is a one-storey Renaissance building with scrolled gables, once a ducal residence and now a library branch. In Arkońskie-Niemierzyn, at Międzyparkowa 12, stands the larch manor house, a modest timber house from the start of the twentieth century. It figures on the heritage register. The overview of palaces leads to more residences across the voivodeship, while things to do in Szczecin covers the rest of the city. For the bishop's palace and other monuments of Kamień Pomorski read Kamień Pomorski: town hall, tower, bishop's palace, museums and a spa town on the Kamień Lagoon.
