a café on the 22nd floor of the Pazim office building with a panorama of Szczecin

Viewpoints in West Pomerania: Bismarck towers, a café on the 22nd floor, hills above the Oder and a wooden tower on the Szczecin Lagoon.

The category collects six places with a view, all free to enter and good for a walk alone or as a couple. Half are in Szczecin, the rest in Świdwin, the Kołbaskowo commune and Świnoujście, so it fits both city plans and trips to the surroundings.

Where can you see a panorama of Szczecin and the Oder valley?

Szczecin has three such places: a tower in Gocław, a view from Stołczyn and a café on a high floor in the centre. Each shows the city from a different perspective, so it is easy to split them into two separate plans.

Wieża Bismarcka w Szczecinie (Bismarck Tower), today called the Gocław Tower, is a 26-metre reinforced concrete structure with a viewing terrace from 1921 on Zielone Wzgórze. Renovation work has suspended visits, so check availability before you go. Punkt widokowy przy ul. Górskiej lies in Stołczyn, on the edge of the Warszewo Hills, and looks over the Oder valley and Lake Dąbie.

If you prefer a view from an armchair, choose Café 22 on the 22nd floor of the Pazim office building at plac Rodła 8. It is an ordinary café with a dessert menu and a bar, and its greatest asset is the panorama of the whole of Szczecin. Such a place also works when the weather is not right for a walk on the hills.

Which viewpoints are outside Szczecin?

Three more places are a tower in Świdwin, a nature reserve near Kołbaskowo and a wooden tower in Świnoujście. The first is a historic monument, the other two are places in nature.

Rezerwat przyrody Wzgórze Widokowe nad Międzyodrzem in the Kołbaskowo commune is a steppe reserve from 1973 on the Morenka hill, with a stone seat at the top and a view of the Oder valley from Szczecin to Gryfino. Wieża widokowa w Leśnictwie Karsibór is an 8 m wooden viewing platform above the Szczecin Lagoon, by the Karsiborskie paprocie trail. In Świdwin, Wieża Bismarcka w Świdwinie is 22 metres tall, built of brick and granite in 1911, but it is not open to visitors, so it can be admired from outside, next to the town park.

More about nature around Szczecin is in the article Park Krajobrazowy Dolina Dolnej Odry i Międzyodrze - przyroda (Lower Oder Valley Landscape Park), and more walks in the categories Wzgórza i szlaki (hills and trails) and Parki i przyroda (parks and nature).
