Villas in West Pomerania: historic villas of Pogodno and Aleja Wojska Polskiego in Szczecin, plus a villa that serves as the town hall in Dębno.
This is a list for people who like architecture from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries: Art Nouveau, Eclecticism and Neo-Baroque. Almost all the villas lie in Szczecin, mainly in Pogodno and along Aleja Wojska Polskiego, so they are easy to see on a single walk.
Which villas can you see along Aleja Wojska Polskiego?
Aleja Wojska Polskiego is the main villa axis of Szczecin. Starting in Śródmieście-Północ, you reach the Willa Augusta Horna (August Horn Villa) at number 70, a half-timbered villa raised in 1871-1872, one of three wooden homes still standing in the city centre. Number 76 is the Willa Hoerdera w Szczecinie (Hoerder Villa), an Eclectic building from 1896-1897, now a secondary school. A few steps further, at number 84, is the Willa Lentza, Aleja Wojska Polskiego 84 w Szczecinie (Lentz Villa): a Neo-Baroque factory owner's villa from 1888-1889, now a city-run cultural institution where you see exhibitions and interiors.
Further on, in Łękno, at number 115 stands the Willa Georga Grawitza w Szczecinie (Georg Grawitz Villa), an Eclectic villa of 1897-1898, adorned by a sundial and by a cartouche with a ship under sail; a music school has occupied it since 1951. In Pogodno, at number 160, you will find the Willa Martina Quistorpa w Szczecinie (Martin Quistorp Villa) from 1899, entered in the register of monuments, and at number 164 the Willa Wegnera w Szczecinie (Wegner Villa), Neoclassical with a Doric portico, now home to a private secondary school.
What to see in Pogodno beyond the main avenue?
Pogodno is a villa district with the most addresses on this list: six. On Ludwika Solskiego Street stand two neighbouring villas. The Willa Krahnstöver w Szczecinie (Krahnstöver Villa) at number 3 is an Art Nouveau house from 1902, built for the merchant Eduard Julius Krahnstöver and restored in 2011. On the other side, at number 4, is the Willa przy ul. Solskiego 4 w Szczecinie (villa at Solskiego 4), a brick villa of 1900-1902, entered in the register in 2014.

Which villas lie outside the centre and in other towns?
On the right bank of the Oder, in Dąbie, at Żaglowa 2 stands the Willa Borchert w Szczecinie (Borchert Villa), a historic villa of 1916-1917, the former seat of the Scout Maritime Centre, now in poor condition. A similar fate met the Willa dyrektorska Pomorskiej Fabryki Szamotu w Szczecinie (Director's Villa of the Pomeranian Chamotte Factory) in Podjuchy, destroyed in a fire in 2022. Check the state of both buildings before a trip to the right bank.
Outside Szczecin the only example is the Ratusz w Dębnie (willa Neumanna) (Town Hall in Dębno): an Eclectic villa of 1905 with a dome over the front projection, entered in the register of monuments and today serving as the town hall.
